Sunderland & The First World War by Trevor Thorne
Published 2013, Paperback Edition
This is the Centenary Year of the First World War of 1914 which will last until 2018.
This book looks at the “war to end all wars” and how it affected the people of Sunderland. How the events of war were reflected in what was then an important shipbuilding centre. It had not yet achieved city status but was a busy and prosperous post-Victorian town, where shipbuilding, engineering and mining were the staple industries.
The book is filled with interesting photographs as well as facts and stories.
