What’s it all about?

Thank you for visiting North East Gifts.

The site was founded when we identified what we thought was a slight ‘gap in the market’. OK, it’s 2013 and eCommerce is so huge that there aren’t really any gaps in markets anymore, but when looking online for a North East calendar a couple of Christmases ago, I noticed two things… a) they all looked the same and b) North East related shops tend to focus on one main area or product type.

There are stores selling gifts about Newcastle or Northumberland or Durham, but none that I had come across seemed to go region-wide. People can also tend to forget that Teesside and Hartlepool are part of the North East too.

Then, there are shops that sell arts by local artists or depicting local places, or just cards and wrapping paper, or just books, calendars and DVDs etc, and so on…

So the idea behind North East Gifts is to cover all of this and more – though we’ve started small, the aim is to build up a store that sells all kinds of everything that’s either about the region, made (or established) here or created by local artists and craftspeople.

We already have some great sellers, stockists and artists on board as you can see by browsing the site. The unique and fast-becoming-iconic range of Geordie Cards & Gifts are prefect for any occasion if you want to wish someone a happy birthday, anniversary or congratulations in a Geordie accent. And local talent such as Simon Howard, Stephen Irving, Paul Hutchinson and Amanda J Kennington add some great pieces of interest to the site, some of them North East related, some of them not, but if it’s by a local artist, it counts.

The final part of our concept (and one of our main differentiators) is our pre-owned section. Our Finance Director is a big lover of markets, auctions and 2nd hand shops and has a great way of hunting down collectible items that are pre-loved but in perfect condition. So we’ve launched with a number of 2nd hand sports books (some signed), the iconic Viz comic books and the uniquely northern Bad Taste Bears.

So, I hope you enjoy browsing the site and find something of interest to purchase. Oh, and we’re always looking for new talent to start selling their work via the site, so get in touch if you’re interested.
